Army of God – “Salvation”
Long stretches of highway, no doubt influenced by hazy memories of David Hasselhoff speeding into the sunset. Robots call to me but I do not heed them. “Salvation” is a testament to its time: a limited edition twelve-inch vinyl single which includes a “dub” version and an italo-disco remix and also happens to be the only release by an artist from the Netherlands which shares its name with a notorious anti-abortion terrorist group from America.
I’ve been listening to these three tracks over and over again as if they were a complete album, an artistic statement unto themselves not only in content but in order. The first two, even back-to-back are nearly indistinguishable. Scratch must be looking forward to spinning in his grave at what is now considered “dub”. My interest always piques when the remix comes on. Everything electro is amplified and Miss Jagroe actually seems to be a part of the track instead of merely a friend who happened to be hanging out in the studio that day.
This is music for melodramatic brooding. It is for putting on your best Blue Steel and turning left to make your exit.
